Intermediate Advanced New Year's Kick Off Workshops

This will be a Non-Partnering workshop, concentrating on proper technique and coordination for Cuban Motion, or rhythmic swaying of the hips and characteristic of all Latin American dances including, Salsa, Bachata, Cha Cha, Rumba, Merengue, etc., and helps ground the dance as well as expand your musical expression when you dance.
We will start the workshop with both male & female dancers in the same room and work on drills to help develop proper cuban motion. For the last half of the workshop, we will divide male and female dancers and each group will learn a short routine incorporating Cuban Motion.
No Partner Required! Some experience in at least one of the partnering dances required.
5:45-7:00pm Social Dancing - Dips & Tricks with Proper Flow & Form
No Partner Required. Intermediate level salsa knowledge required.
In this partnering workshop we will focus on the flashier side of salsa social dancing - dips, tricks, playtime, and other fun stuff that can easily be incorporated into your social dancing. We will focus on each element with proper technique and form as well as styling variations for the followers, and by the end of the workshop, you will have a short sequence of moves incorporating all the elements covered in class.

Brian Fortuna (Guest Instructor) Former Pro Dancer, Dancing With the Stars (USA), Strictly Come Dancing (UK), and Burn the Floor (AUS). Brian competed on Dancing with the Stars during its 4th season; partnering former Miss USA, Shandi Finnessey. His television success allowed him to dance as a principal dancer in the next two national Dancing with the Stars tours. Brian did double duty on the tour and was chosen to also host the third DWTS tour in front of sold out audiences of 15,000 people per night. His hosting talents captured the attention of ABC who chose Brian as series co-host with his Dancing with the Stars partner Shandi for ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars…Online Encore.” In 2008, Brian was invited to join the cast of Strictly Come Dancing, where he competed with M People’s Heather Small and finished a respectable 8th. Series 7 in 2009 saw Brian partnered with former Hollyoaks and The Bill actress, Ali Bastian. The pair placed danced their way to the semi-finals. Brian was Lead Choreographer and Consulting Producer for the TV series Dancing on Wheels, in which disabled and able-bodied contestants were paired as they learn the art of Ballroom and Latin DanceSport. Brian is currently a sought after dancer, actor, choreographer, host, and instructor in Los Angeles.
Marisa Hamamoto Dancer, Actress, Choreographer, Instructor, Inspirational Speaker. President/CEO, Wheelchair Dancepiration. After 20 years of dancing ballet and contemporary dance in both the US and Japan, Marisa started salsa and ballroom dancing while recovering from Spinal Cord Infarction, a severe neurological disease which laid her paralyzed from the neck down. She feels blessed to be back on the dance floor again, and is now dancing and teaching professionally full-time. Marisa has been featured in various commercials, infomercials, and tv shows, and has performed at hundreds of shows, events, and private parties. She recently started pursuing a career in acting as well, and enjoys the process of continually learning and challenging herself. Marisa earned both her BA and MA on merit scholarships from Keio University, the “Harvard” of Japan. Linking her dancing with her academic studies, Marisa researched and published papers in the fields of Dance Science and Dance Education. Marisa is Founder of Sexy Salsa Ballroom, and is very blessed to be sharing her passion for dancing with diverse populations through her company.
